The confessions you read within this novel are true confessions, submitted anonymously by readers. This book is dedicated to all of you who found the courage to share them.
The dedication had me intrigued and I knew I was in for something really interesting. The real life confessions combined with the amazing artwork by Danny O'Connor made for an innovative concept. It is one of those books best experienced without knowing too much beforehand, so I'll try to keep it brief.
Auburn Mason Reed suffered a great loss when she was only 15 years old. Five years later, she has moved to Dallas, Texas. Her mind is set on her goals and she is determined to do whatever it takes to meet them. Right when she desperately needs some extra money, she happens to notice a job offer taped to an art studio. She feels an undeniable attraction to the owner Owen Mason Gentry, a loner who drowns his demons in the striking art he creates.Yes, they share the same middle name. Fate ? Finding Auburn at his doorstep is something Owen always hoped for, but never believed could happen. The story is told from alternating POV's(Auburn's and Owen's) and as the story unravels, Auburn's heart wrenching story comes to light while Owen's remains largely a mystery. The ending puts the whole book in perspective and I loved how everything came full circle. My only complaint is that I would have loved an epilogue just to close off the story, a bit more. Nevertheless, I really liked this book and would definitely recommend it, specially if you're a Hoover fan.
